Benidorm

Benidorm, which was once a sleepy fishing village, is now the largest and best known holiday resort on the Costa Blanca, and has become a major centre of the package holiday industry.

Benidorm is capable of lodging 5 million visitors a year. It is full of life especially for the energetic types who can beach bash all day and party all night. Situated approximately 30 miles from Gran Alacant, Benidorm is easily accessible by car or by bus (you will need to catch the bus from Gran Alacant to Alicante, then another bus to Benidorm).

Its reputation did suffer at one time, but Local officials have worked hard to improve the image of Benidorm and rid it of the lager-lout culture that was widely reported on in the British press. The authorities now provide such things as free jazz and classical concerts.

Benidorm remains very popular with families from all over Europe. Thanks to its geographical position between two mountain ranges, Benidorm enjoys a fantastic climate which provides 350 days of sunshine a year, excellent sunbathing weather in summer and comfortable temperatures in the winter.

Benidorm has a youthful and energetic nightlife with plenty of discos and nightclubs, endless bars and a full range of restaurants; everything from fast food to fine dining.

Benidorm has two main crescent shaped beaches; Poniente to the West and Levante to the East, both have golden sand that is always well groomed and clean. These are separated by a small beach in a sheltered bay that is overlooked by a rocky protrusion known as 'el Balcon del Mediterraneo'. This is a fantastic vantage point with fantastic views.

The Levante beach is in the newer part of Benidorm and the palm tree promenade is lined with terraced restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. At the far end of the beach there are a variety of water sports available, including; The inflatable banana ride, water skiing and surfboard sailing.

Poniente beach is on the other side of ‘el Balcon’, and is often less busy than Levante as it is a little further away from the town centre. The Poniente is in an excellent position for sunbathers as it avoids the shade all day long, and enjoys sunshine up to 8.30pm in the evening.

In addition to the beaches, Benidorm has a lot to offer families, such as; go-karting, ten-pin bowling, theme parks, the water features at Aqualandia or the dolphin show at Mundomar.
