Elche is found 23km in land from Gran Alacant, and is just 30 minutes drive from the apartment. Elche is the capital of the El Baix district and has the Valencia region's third largest population. 

The city is surrounded by palm tree groves and there are over 300,000 officially protected palm trees in Elche which provide a lovely tropical atmosphere.

Elche has a wonderful municipal park full of tall palms, water features, and band stands. The tourist office can be found in the corner of the park, where you can get a street plan with suggested routes to help you get the most from your visit.

The River Vinalopo meanders through Elche and has many notable intersections. By staying close to the river you will see the best sights including the Basilica, the Museo de la fiesta, the Palacio, and the old town market. 

Elche has some interesting architecture with intricate stonework and plenty of statues and monuments.
